چکیده

Background: The N14(n,p)C14 reaction is of interest in neutron capture therapy, where nitrogen-related dose the main component due to low-energy neutrons, and astrophysics, N14 acts as a poison s process. Several discrepancies remain between existing data obtained partial energy ranges: thermal energy, keV region, resonance region. Purpose: We aim measure cross section from region single measurement for first time, including characterization resonances, provide calculations Maxwellian averaged sections (MACS). Method: apply time-of-flight technique at Experimental Area 2 (EAR-2) (n_TOF) facility CERN. B10(n,α)Li7 U235(n,f) reactions are used references. Two detection systems run simultaneously, one on beam another off beam. Resonances described with R-matrix code sammy. Results: was measured subthermal 800 keV, resolving two resonances (at 492.7 644 keV). A (1.809±0.045 b) that lower than most recent measurements by slightly more standard deviation, but line ENDF/B-VIII.0 JEFF-3.3 evaluations. 1/v dependence confirmed up tens energy. low tail suggested evaluated values, while overall strength agrees Conclusions: Our has allowed determination N14(n,p) over wide range time. have high accuracy (2.5%) these calculate MACS kT=5 kT=100 keV.8 MoreReceived 15 December 2022Accepted 22 May 2023DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevC.107.064617Published American Physical Society under terms Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Measurement of the 240Pu(n,f) cross-section at the CERN n_TOF facility: first results from EAR-2

The accurate knowledge of neutron cross-sections of a variety of plutonium isotopes and other minor actinides, such as neptunium, americium and curium, is crucial for feasibility and performance studies of advanced nuclear systems (Generation-IV reactors, Accelerator Driven Systems). In this context, the 240Pu(n,f) cross-section was measured with the time-of-flight technique at the CERN n_TOF f...

The n_TOF Facility at CERN: Performances and First Physics Results

The neutron Time of Flight (n_TOF) facility at CERN is a source of a wide-range (1 eV<En<250 MeV) flux of neutrons, generated by spallation of 20-GeV/c protons onto a solid lead target. The goal of the n_TOF is to provide unprecedented precision in neutron kinetic energy determination, which will in turn bring the much-needed precision in neutron-induced cross-section measurements. The unique f...

^{7}Be(n,α)^{4}He Reaction and the Cosmological Lithium Problem: Measurement of the Cross Section in a Wide Energy Range at n_TOF at CERN.

The energy-dependent cross section of the ^{7}Be(n,α)^{4}He reaction, of interest for the so-called cosmological lithium problem in big bang nucleosynthesis, has been measured for the first time from 10 meV to 10 keV neutron energy. The challenges posed by the short half-life of ^{7}Be and by the low reaction cross section have been overcome at n_TOF thanks to an unprecedented combination of th...

Fission Fragment Angular Distribution measurements of 235U and 238U at CERN n_TOF facility

Neutron-induced fission cross sections of 238U and 235U are used as standards in the fast neutron region up to 200 MeV. A high accuracy of the standards is relevant to experimentally determine other neutron reaction cross sections. Therefore, the detection efficiency should be corrected by using the angular distribution of the fission fragments (FFAD), which are barely known above 20 MeV. In ad...

Experimental neutron capture data of 58Ni from the CERN n_TOF facility

The neutron capture cross section of 58Ni was measured at the neutron time of flight facility n_TOF at CERN, from 27 meV to 400 keV neutron energy. Special care has been taken to identify all the possible sources of background, with the so-called neutron background obtained for the first time using high-precision GEANT4 simulations. The energy range up to 122 keV was treated as the resolved res...
